Contracted with Tuckerman Home Group to build a house in Powell Ohio. Craig and the entire Tuckerman Home Group staff was very easy to work with. The home was customized from the standard model and we were informed of any changes or modifications along the way. We would strongly consider having Tuckerman Home Group build another home for us, if the occasion ever arose.

The Columbus Comeback

Written by

From Time Magazine

If you ever wonder what kind of economic development might be accomplished in this country with more bipartisan cooperation, consider Columbus, Ohio. This low-key, Middle American metropolis of about 800,000 is becoming something of a celebrity city, talked up in a recent New York Times Magazine piece on the success of Ohio and visited more than a dozen times by presidential and vice-presidential candidates. No wonder. After taking a dive during the recession, Columbus has roared back, with the metro area creating more new jobs than any other city in Ohio over the past two years. In many ways, it's a model for what an economy can do when you admit that growth isn't about tax cuts and austerity but about both streamlining government and investing public money in the right things.

Great News For Sellers!

Written by

We call it Sell-a-topia

So there may be no more exciting news for those considering selling their existing home than that within the front page of the Columbus Dispatch today.  Not only are interest rates uber-attractive, and competition from other homes on the market devestatingly low, but these factors combine to create an environment where homes are selling fast, FAST, FAST!

A highlight of the article includes the anecdote from Worthington of a seller who puts her ranch on the market on a Friday and receives two offers -- one for above asking price -- by Monday evening.

Myself as well as my company has worked with you for a number of years now and I just wanted to write you a note of how much myself as well as my team appreciates working with you and your staff.  You guys are fair, build a great product, and are easy to communicate with.  When issues do arise you are proactive in getting them resolved, but more importantly you work with us to develop ways so the same issues can be avoided in the future.  You are one of the few builders that will always listen to what we have to say and will change what you are doing if it makes sense.  It’s nice to have a partner who listens and adjusts to what we say if it makes sense.  This goes both ways as you have had a number of good suggestions that has made my company better overall.

Keep up the great work and thanks for letting us be a part of your team.

Walking Around the Village

Written by

Love Where You Live!

One of the most underrated evening activities is walking to your favorite restaurant. Okay, maybe not your favorite restaurant in the entire world, but being able to lace up and walk to something -- be it a restaurant, park, or community event is overlooked as an important part of "the good life."  Check out the Village!  The Village at Hannah Farms that is.  It is not only strategically located at the corner of Gahanna and New Albany, but it also is connected via a pedestrian path to real destinations unlike some of its isolated competitor developments. The picture gallery within highlights some amazing features of this well-planned 'neighborhood' like the truly scenic walk to Hannah Park and nearby restaurants.

2013 Lighting Trends

Layering, LED's, Landscaping, Traditional Fixtures...Which Does Not Belong?

September 18th is National Ceiling Fan Day, and we thought that before you breeze your way right through the holiday, we could bring you industry news and customer feedback regarding lighting design, fixture styles, and new products.  The top trend this year as reported by experts far and wide is that 2013 will be the year that LED (Light Emitting Diode) lighting comes in full force to practical residential applications.  The technical and cost barriers have finally broken down, and while the quality of the light emitted by these diodes has improved, here is a word of wisdom from a local home inspector:

Homeowners should look for Energy Star rated LED bulbs, which have been tested to meet EPA standards of color quality and consistency, energy efficiency, and stable performance. Inferior products may make a lot of promises but may not deliver. By replacing the bulbs in their most-used and hard-to-reach fixtures, homeowners can start saving energy - and money - right now..

Tuckerman School Districts Make The Grade

Looking for a great home in one of Central Ohio's best school districts?

"Public schools and districts in Ohio this year received letter grades -- A through F -- based on students' success last year.  The revamped report-card system is, in some ways, more complex than in previous years.  The state won't issue overall grades until 2015.  Until then (this) is what the state uses to determine a school's grade: Achievement, Graduation, Value-Added Features, Gap Closing." --The Dispatch, Friday August 23, 2013.  Please enjoy the glowing report details on the Olentangy, Bexley, Gahanna-Jefferson, and New Albany-Plain school districts within this post.

The History of New Albany

Written by

Our supplement to a Business First article featuring Craig...

Read CBF full article within.  From 1856-1980 the population of New Albany fluxuated modestly between 50 and 414 people.  In those times the great industry of the area was the New Albany Lumber Mill - originally Wilkins Mill - or fishing in the headwaters of the Rocky Fork Creek (To satisfy a nostalgic longing we are eagerly hunting photographs of this timeperiod).  How did the community go from a sleepy Hamlet to a population of almost 8,000 with some of the best schools in Ohio in three decades?  Columbus Business First interviewed Craig Tuckerman while discovering just that.

One homebuilder continues to mine residential gold in New Albany. Craig Tuckerman, president of Tuckerman Home Group, said he continues to build new homes in New Albany for several reasons. First, new construction and buying continue to garner attention, encouraging him to purchase viable lots. Tuckerman has built more than 30 homes in New Albany, and recently purchased 11 empty lots “because we have faith the buyers are there,” he said. His company is “busy as we have ever been in New Albany,” and he expects that trend to continue. He has heard “a lot of optimism,” including from potential buyers, so said he will continue to build there.

Craig and The Tuckerman Home Group built my home in 1997. They ere wonderful to work with. They were flexible, patient, accommodating and always professional. Their work was on-time, and the quality and pride in their work was evident. The Tuckerman Home Group creates a relationship that goes beyond the construction and warranty of your home. I have used two other builders in the Columbus area and after the warranty period you never heard from them again. The Tuckerman Home Group touches my life twice a year with their spring and fall Home Maintenance Reminder List. If you are not a "DYI" person they offer services or referrals to keep your home maintained ... no other builder does that! If you are considering building or buying a new home, I highly recommend Craig and his team at The Tuckerman Home Group. They are not just a builder... they are your friend.

To Whom It May Concern:
It is my understanding that The Tuckerman Home Group, Inc. has been nominated for some distinctive awards within the building industry and as a supplier for their organization I wanted to share a few comments about my experience with them as a customer.  I have been working with Craig Tuckerman and his team for a little over a year now and I can say that the most distinctive quality that permeates their entire organization is professionalism.  It extends from Craig to Phil, his job superintendent, to Lisa working in the sales model and to the other crews working on the site; everyone always handles themselves with the utmost degree of professionalism.  Having worked in the building/construction industry for over 10-years, this is not something I always get to see and appreciate in my customers.
Looking at their company from a vendor standpoint The Tuckerman Home Group, Inc. is excellent at communicating with me frequently and in a timely manner.  In my business as their lighting supplier my success greatly depends on open communication between the builders and myself.  With open communication the projects get quoted, bid, sold and installed with minimal interruptions or delays for the customer or the builder.  With Craig and particularly with Phil, this is almost always the case.  Phil is always on top of the project scheduling and as a result the jobs we work on together seem to flow smoothly and effectively both from their end and our end which is of course the ideal relationship.
Finally, I am their vendor so once the job is done being able to collect our receivables with minimal effort and interruption is crucial.  With The Tuckerman team, bill payment is never a problem.  Their bills are paid on time and in full.
I truly enjoy the relationship I have been able to build with Craig and his team and wish them the best of luck in this awards process.  Good luck!

Hey Craig,
Ok first off we have moved back from Belgium (yes it was fast) and now we are living in the Woodlands, Texas.  It has taken us forever to find a home and I fully blame that on you!!  You completely spoiled us and it was so hard finding a home that met the Tuckerman standards we are used to, I just wanted you to come here and build us a house!! Obviously that was not going to happen so we finally settled on a house and are updating the entire thing.
Seriously we have decided that 7229 Place is the best house we ever had and I have a feeling nothing would ever live up to it!
Hope all is well in Ohio and business is doing good.  The houses are flying off the market, people are getting what they are asking or more depending on where it is!! It's crazy!!!
Thanks so much and I look forward to hearing from you.

Exclusively at the New Albany Country Club

I beleive this is our finest floorplan within the category of homes featuring a first floor master suite.  What makes it unique is the combination of a completely Georgian country home exterior with a floorplan built for entertainment and family living.  Its layout and flow does not quite approach those of strict utility; quite the contrary, its conveniences are added bonuses, tastefully complementing an already stately home.  Consider, for example, the powder room off of the drop zone adjacent to the garage.  The outdoor courtyard that empties off of the breakfast and great room.  The private staircase, in lieu of a grand stair hall.  The coat, linen, and walk-in-closets.  This is a home for the good life in 2013.  Continued...

To whom it may concern:

The Tuckerman Home Group, and specifically Craig Tuckerman, is an example of what dedication to an organization, an industry, and a community can lead to:  A dedicated following of vendors and customers who trust your name for excellent service and fair treatment with everyone involved.  Despite not growing up in the industry, the Tuckerman Home Group has become one of the top 20 builders in Central Ohio, not necessarily in volume, but in reputation.  The Tuckerman Home Group is a registered Builder in the Building Industry Association and Craig has served as BIA President and remains active with the organization.

Wish I could give 4 1/2 stars. Tuckerman Home Group is great to work with -- the process went smoothly, they were always available to explain things to us and were responsive, quality is very good, very reliable, we are very happy with our home. They went above and beyond in several areas. The reason for not giving 5 stars is that there were a few times when communication could've been better about certain things and that a few of their sub-contractors were not responsive or helpful (many of them, however, were fabulous). Overall, we are very happy with our home.

We had a two day house search in April 2011. We saw 26 houses in two days. I fell in love with the Tuckerman built home but thought we couldn't make it work as we needed a 5th bedroom. Our realtor called the Tuckerman group and Craig met us personally at the home the next day. He gave on the spot ideas for changes he could make to the home to make it work for our family. We made an offer the next day. It was quickly accepted, the minor construction changes were made and we moved in on time 6 weeks later. The company has been responsive to every little question and concern we had since moving in.

One of my kids even pulled a window off track and the maintenance man came over right away and fixed it! We aren't currently in the market to build, but I wouldn't hesitate to ask the Tuckerman Home Group to build our next home!

I wanted to express our sincere appreciation for the wonderful experience thay my wife Sue and I have enjoyed while you and your excellent staff have been building our new home. The superior quality was obvious from the framing to the finishing throughout the entire construction project. Not only are the products you install amoung the best, (like Koehler) but the attention to detail and the skill of your people shines through. From our “bark” ceiling finish---even in the garage, yes! To the beauty of the hardwood floors, Craig, we could not be more pleased.

Also, your flexibility when we changed our minds and your fairness in pricing of our change-orders made the personal preferences and custom appointments a delightful difference. Additionally, we simply must mention her by name, Lisa Theado may be your builder representative, but we call her friend. She was always very supportive of you and your company but we knew when we worked with her, if we had a want or a need she was on top of it. The Tuckerman Home Group supports the BIA Parade of Homes as a yearly centerpiece of the Columbus home-buying experience.  We have proudly participated in parades in 2006, 2008, 2010, and built the Parade Foundation House for charity in 2011.  Always an excellent opportunity for buyers and builders, it is also a showcase of the latest trends/feedback, and simply fun.  This year we invite you all to an open house of our new model at Wentworth Crossing, New Albany, OH in the spirit of the Parade.

That center is an idea built on dreams, too. Its goal isn’t so much to react to illness, but to bolster life and the things that make it great: the best foods and exercise, a fulfilling social network, plenty of sleep and a sunny outlook. New Albany’s 8,000 residents and 12,000 workers will be able to get personalized plans at the center for improving their lives, including diet and exercise. - Excerpt from story by Lori Kurtzman

After looking at the model we were impressed with the quality. After talking with Craig we liked the idea of building with a smaller builder. It was important to us that we were able to talk directly to Craig.

CNBC: Builders Not Meeting Demand

Written by

We're Trying!

Some great analysis today on fundamental housing market dynamics as old as the hammer and nail: when demand rises and supply shrinks, prices go up.  While you don't need a degree in economics from The Ohio State University to understand this, CNBC does some great reporting on the finer points.  For instance, market segmentation between distressed properties, used homes, and new builds from builders adds some depth to the picture of rising costs.  Also of note is, despite the local market's hit in 2008, prices are on the rise everywhere--even in those areas not swamped with foreclosures like Columbus.  CNBC claims builders aren't building fast enough--if they only knew what The Tuckerman Home Group was accomplishing in Wentworth Crossing!  Read the whole article within.

Sales soar as buyers compete for homes

Interesting article in the Dispatch on August 23, 2012 about a lower inventory of homes for sale in Central Ohio.  Anecdotedly, I have heard the same from a neighbor who has decided to build in Italian Village because she can't find a home for sale that suits her needs.

New Dispatch, New Report on Housing

How do you like the new Dispatch format?  People we talk to are pretty positive about it and if you saw the front page today, well, its pretty positive too.

"More jobs, low interest rates and rising rents are helping drive home construction. The improving market also means that homeowners are finally able to sell their homes, allowing them to buy a new one."

Here is the Tuckerman Home Group review of this latest news by the numbers...

WSJ Report on Lumber Costs

Written by

Is the Public Aware of this Trend?

U.S. benchmark prices for lumber could rise around another 25% this year, according to Capital Economics, which added lumber to its coverage of agricultural commodities on Monday. “We think that the price of lumber could rise further this year and possibly reach fresh highs, as three key factors which forced prices higher over 2012 have further to run,” said Tom Pugh, commodities economist at Capital Economics, in a note.

The folks at The Tuckerman Home Group are so easy to work with, and so good to their word. We wouldn't build with anyone else. While other builders are often limited in their selection, Craig and his team are flexible about options. I asked for a custom mantle. They provided it. I asked for special outlet covers -- brass, silver, they let me choose.

It's possible to swap, add, and even save! My mother calls Craig, "the most honest man I've ever met…"

Coming Soon To Beautiful Kitzmiller Road!

Written by

There's a reason Les Wexner chose to build the second largest mansion in Ohio on Kitzmiller Road.

Browse nearby property listings on Trulia and find a high-ranked location across many categories as well as glowing descriptions of homes for sale like "...nestled in park-like acres," "Enjoy scenic views of a sparkling creek," as well as "Star gaze from 3 acres with mature trees and gorgeous setting."  However, we enjoy this down-to-earth description from a joyride/motorcycle blog that also hints at why this area just outside Columbus also offers peace of mind and a sense of security.  Its all about living in the country with the convenience of city-living:

Kitzmiller starts at a bar with good drink specials and ends at a pizza joint with good pies. The road is in great condition with some 90 degree turns and lots of trees. Be careful of the speeds cause the law is watching. This road goes through a horse farm, golf course and the homestead of the CEO of Victoria Secrets.

Mindful Maintenance #2: Concrete Issues in Winter

Written by

Freeze/Thaw & Chemical Attack

Its winter. Water turns to ice and it expands. When this occurs in the tiny pores of the concrete, the concrete becomes distressed and degrades. This occurs more rapidly with each next freeze/thaw cycle. Driving or parking on a snowy surface compacts the snow powder into ice. Thus its important to remove ice and snow from concrete slabs as promptly as possible after snowstorms. Its just as critical to protect concrete from abuse by pet urine, fertilizers, radiator overflow, repeated hosing, or de-icing agents, such as road salt that can drip from vehicles. All of these items can cause spalling (chipping of the surface) of concrete. Never put any calcium or salt products on any concrete surfaces.

Sales Soar!

Written by

2012 Optimism & 2013 Opportunities

In September we posted about the strong year for home sales we are enjoying locally. As a followup, we can say due to great reporting from the Columbus Dispatch and Jim Weiker that as a region Central Ohio sold more homes than at any time since 2005. 2005?! That was before the 'Great Recession' so some investigation remains for market dynamics between 2005-2008. Regardless, this is great news for Columbus, Ohio, and the nation as is described below in the source article from the Dispatch. In short, sales, prices, optimism up; inventory, interest rates down. What a combination.

It is with a great deal of pleasure that we have the opportunity to express our complete satisfaction with the product (OUR HOME) provided by The Tuckerman Home Group and specifically our great pleasure in working with Craig Tuckerman, our builder, and Phil, the supervisor assigned to our project. We have been in our home for three years now and are so completely happy that it’s hard to put into words. Over the years we have built several houses and commercial buildings and we have never worked with any individuals that were so professional and accommodating as the team from The Tuckerman Home Group. Every small detail was handled promptly and exactly as we hoped it would be. The 6-month and 1 year follow-ups were above and beyond anything we had ever experienced from the building industry before. We have, as a result, recommended to many individuals that are looking for a home to look for one built by The Tuckerman Home Group first, as we can’t imagine any builder building a better home or being easier to work with in all stages of the process. The “no compromise” standard of quality coupled with the personal commitment to satisfying the customer is a rare and admirable combination not commonly found in today’s business world and the Tuckerman Home Group possesses these characteristics in every way imaginable.
